News reports surrounding rumors of the story and release date of the greatly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI are beginning to release. There have been more developments of late as Rockstar Games has already shifted resources from Red Dead 2 to GTA VI. The company also decided not to remaster GTA IV and Red Dead to focus more on GTA VI.
It is clear that Rockstar Games has made Grand Theft Auto VI a direct priority over the past few months and finally, there have been reported updates on the new game. This big update involves a possible new lead character for the next installment in the franchise.
According to a Bloomberg report on Rockstar Games, GTA VI will have a Latinx female playable protagonist that will be a major part of the next game. This is the first time that GTA has had a playable female protagonist in the GTA 3D universe, although they did have playable female characters all the way back in the first GTA. The same report also states that the game will take place in a fictionalized version of Miami, which could spell a return of the familiar Vice City setting
The game was originally rumored to take place in both North America and South America, but it appears that will no longer be happening. However, according to the report, a Bonnie and Clyde-esque story based in Vice City is in the works and could make for an extremely fun Grand Theft Auto VI.
Besides the Latinx protagonist, Bonnie and Clyde story, and fictionalized Miami setting, there is additional information known about GTA VI. There will be more locations added after the launch of the game and it will have more interior locations than any GTA title to date.
Furthermore, there have been some changes made at the workplace of Rockstars Games, encouraging a much healthier work environment. They are building a better culture and someone in the Bloomberg report even stated that Rockstar is “a boys’ club transformed into a real company.” However, even with the push toward building a better culture, it would seem that it has affected their ability to develop the game. There still is no definitive release date set and some developers reportedly think it will still be another two years until fans receive Grand Theft Auto VI.
