Report: Tee Higgins Looking For Similar Deal To Colts’ Pittman

Earlier this off-season, the Cincinnati Bengals placed the franchise tag on former second-round pick Tee Higgins. Higgins has been an extremely solid WR2 behind Ja’Maar Chase but was looking for a big-money deal. However, after failing to reach a deal in a timely manner, he would go on to request a trade from the team. Many were left wondering what the contract demands were looking like from Higgins, and we may have just found out.

According to Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Inquirer via thescore.com: Tee Higgins was looking to receive a similar contract to that of Michael Pittman. Pittman received his extension this off-season, to the tune of three years for $70 million. Higgins has expressed his desire in the past to stay with the Cincinnati Bengals long-term, but we may be seeing the end of this pairing. Granted, if there was really going to be a trade, it likely would have happened right before or during the 2024 NFL Draft. Since we did not see a trade happen during this window, it appears unlikely we will see one before the start of training camp at least.

On the one hand, you can’t blame Tee Higgins for wanting to be paid. During his first four seasons with the team, he posted 257 catches for 3,684 yards (including two 1,000-yard seasons) and 24 touchdowns while serving as the number two receiver in Cincinnati. But on the other hand, there needs to be a level of self-awareness in knowing that Ja’Maar Chase still needs to be paid, plus they just gave Joe Burrow a massive extension. Wanting WR1 money as a WR2 likely won’t work out in your favor, but I wish him the best. Everyone deserves a bag.
