Reggie Miller claims New York Knicks won 2024 offseason

Once upon a time, Indiana Pacers Hall of Fame shooting guard Reggie Miller earned the nickname, “Knick Killer,” for his infamous bouts against the New York Knicks in the 1990s. Most famously, in 1995, Miller scored eight points in 8.9 seconds to stun New York 107-105 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals inside Madison Square Garden.

Miller, who’s been a broadcaster with Turner Sports for nearly two decades, returned to a warm welcome inside MSG for Game 2 of Knicks-Pacers in May. Both sides evidently had their fun talking trash, with the Pacers getting the last laugh in Game 7.

That doesn’t mean Miller is absolved from giving the Knicks credit, however.

In a recent USA Today story published by Larry Berger, Miller told the publication that they have won the 2024 offseason, giving them an “A++++” grade.

“Miller cited the team’s chemistry, including uniting four Villanova teammates and re-signing OG Anunoby, as the primary sources of optimism for the team and its fans,” Berger wrote Friday. “The iconic sharpshooter — who once scored eight points in nine seconds to beat New York in a 1995 playoff game — does warn against minimizing the loss of Isaiah Hartenstein, who signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Still, Miller is so confident in the quality of New York’s recent transactions he gave the team an ‘A++++’ grade for its offseason.”

New York has had a very active offseason. It traded four unprotected first-round picks–plus Bojan Bogdanovic, an unprotected swap and a 2025 second-round pick–to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Mikal Bridges and Keita Bates-Diop. They also re-signed OG Anunoby, extended Jalen Brunson to a team-friendly deal and drafted Tyler Kolek, Pacome Datiet and Ariel Hukporti in the 2024 NBA Draft.

They are almost surefire contenders in the Eastern Conference–alongside the Philadelphia 76ers and potentially the Milwaukee Bucks in hopes of knocking off the reigning NBA champion Boston Celtics.

It’s obviously not going to be easy, but the Knicks are more equipped to do so than they were a few months ago, should they stay healthy–a big question with head coach Tom Thibodeau.
