Jonathan Allen was taken with the taken with the 17th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins. His rookie season will be cut short as the team has placed him on injured reserve. Allen suffered a Lisfranc injury which prompted the move to place him on IR.
Redskins ESPN reporter John Keim had the following on the injury:
“Redskins defensive lineman Jonathan Allen will miss the rest of the season, a source said. Allen suffered a Lisfranc injury in Sunday’s win over San Francisco”
Allen, 22, recorded just one sack during his rookie campaign. In five total games, Allen didn’t make the kind of crazy impact you might think only recording 10 tackles. The former Alabama product was heralded as one of the best defensive linemen in the 2017 draft class. Allen will now have to recover and get back on the field next season.
Washington is 3-2 on the season as have suffered a number of injuries including cornerback Josh Norman. Matt Ioannidis has flourished for Washington in his second season from Temple and will now have to step up with Allen sidelined. Anthony Lanier will take over Allen’s duties as a starter at defensive tackle for the team.
