Red Sox Considering A Six Man Rotation For 2025

The Red Sox are cheap but I guess you can’t criticize them for being creative! For the upcoming 2025 MLB Season, Boston is contemplating with the idea of using a six man rotation.

 Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic was the first to float the idea. Do not click the link provided by the trash Athletic company. It’s behind a paywall so you can’t read it anyway. Their entire company is garbage. I’m just required to list the source.

On the surface, this concept does make sense. Kutter Crawford, Tanner Houck, Lucas Giolito, Walker Buehler, Brayan Bello, and Garrett Crochet are all ready to go for this season. Buehler was signed in free agency and Crochet was brought in via trade. Oh, and Patrick Sandoval was signed too but he’s still in recovery and should be ready towards the end of the season.

The only player to depart from the group is Nick Pivetta. It also seems possible the Sox aren’t done shopping for rotation help and have been in the rumor mill for Luis Castillo. Injuries are bound to happen so going to a six man unit and then trimming it down to five when someone goes down could be a route they go down.

Red Sox pitchers are Elite at Being Bad

The Sox can talk about this all they want. The bottom line here is that they need Crochet to be a bonified ace. Bello has to keep taking steps forward. Houck needs to prove he’s not a fluke. Buehler needs to pitch like the peak guy we’ve seen in the postseason. If those things happen, this Sox team can make noise this season. If not, it could be another long season for the Sox.
