Ravens Owner Hates That QB Market Reset With Lamar Jackson Due

With the trade of Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans to the Cleveland Browns, not only did that set the market for trades of star QBs, but his contract did as well. Watson agreed to a 5 year/$230 Million fully guaranteed contract, the first of its kind. Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti bemoaned the Watson contract since he has contract negotiations coming up with Lamar Jackson in the near future.

Full quote via nypost.com:

“I don’t know that he should’ve been the first guy to get a fully guaranteed contract,” Bisciotti said of Watson on Tuesday at the NFL owners’ meetings in Palm Beach, Fla. “To me, that’s something that is groundbreaking, and it’ll make negotiations harder with others.”

Bisciotti is hopeful that a deal with Lamar Jackson is done soon but admitted that negotiations are taking much longer than expected.

We’ll pay him when he’s ready.

“Without a QB you believe in, life (stinks) as an NFL owner and as a fan base. … We appreciate (Lamar). All I know is that his teammates love him and the front office loves him,” he continued.

Lamar Jackson, 25, already has an MVP to his name and an impressive 37-12 record in games he has started. If you are Baltimore, no matter if Watson signed for $400M guaranteed, if you believe in Lamar Jackson, you’ll have to pay the man. He has the resume to back himself up, whether you like his playstyle or not. It’s make-or-break time for the Ravens. Either pay the man or let him walk. But either way, Jackson is going to get his bag.
