Say what you will about some of the decisions the Las Vegas Raiders have made at the Quarterback position; whether it being giving Gardner Minshew a mini-bag, or not being more aggressive in moving up for one in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, you can’t argue against the fact they are certainly trying to surround Minshew with some weapons. They took Brock Bowers 13th overall, and it was announced tonight that the team has signed former Dallas Cowboy Michael Gallup. ESPN was the first to report the news on the one-year, $3 million deal.
His rookie deal in Dallas was showing tons of promise. In his first three seasons, he had 158 receptions for 2,457 yards and 13 touchdowns. It would appear that they got a steal out of their third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. However, the last three years haven’t been overly kind to Gallup, as he missed 8 games in 2021, and saw his receptions, yards, and touchdowns take a sharp decline. This could be in part to playing alongside Amari Cooper for one season and Ceedee Lamb for three. Now, his running mates will be Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers.
I don’t hate the signing of Michael Gallup to Las Vegas. This team needed a WR3 after they cut Hunter Renfrow, and since they did not address that position in this year’s draft there was still a bit of a hole there. Tre Tucker showed big play upside but he is very much still a work in progress. I don’t think the reward can be terribly high for signing Gallup, but if anything he will bring some veteran leadership to this room and should be good for a few games where he stands out.
