Raiders Hire Tom Telesco As New General Manager

The Raiders moved on from head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler. Antonio Pierce has already been named the head coach. The GM puzzle piece has now been completed. After only interviewing three candidates for the job, Las Vegas has settled on Tom Telesco to take over as new GM.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was the first to report the news:

I’m sorry, but this is disgusting. Telesco was fired by the Chargers for a reason. The guy was about as close to a total failure as it gets. In ten years on the job in LA, Telesco’s team made the playoffs three times. That’s two total playoff wins and one was his first year on the job inheriting a talented team.

The draft history speaks for itself. Not in a good way either. Telesco managed to draft just two Pro Bowlers after the first round in ten years on the job with the Chargers. That’s also coming off a year where he picked Quinton Johnston one pick ahead of Zay Flowers.

None of that is hindsight bias, by the way…

Oh, and his two head coaching hires are Anthony Lynn and Brandon Staley. This is not a smart football mind. Don’t worry, he has experience and that’s good enough for the Raiders.

Tom Telesco: Could I Have Saved His Job With The Chargers?

This franchise is so damn dysfunctional you can’t do anything other than laugh. If you’re looking for positives, Telesco likely won’t do something as embarrassing as when the Raiders picked Alex Leatherwood in the first round!
