Tom Telesco is out. Tom Brady’s unknown side piece from Tampa is in. It’s pretty obvious now that Brady had a candidate in mind when the Raiders fired Telesco because he’s hiring someone he knows fairly well. John Spytek will become the new Raiders general manager after previously working for Jason Licht as an assistant with the Bucs.
When you consider Brady and Spytek were college teammates at Michigan, you understand how Spytek ended up being the guy to get this GM job.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was the first to report the news:
Spytek, 44, is already the 5th new GM since the team relocated to Vegas. The group of Mike Mayock, Dave Ziegler, Champ Kelly, and Tom Telesco all had opportunities and all failed to build a winning product. Time will tell if Spytek can be the lucky charm to turn things around.
It also remains to be seen who the Raiders will hire for the head coaching position. Pete Carroll, Ron Rivera, Robert Saleh, and Todd Monken have all been tied to the job. It could be someone beyond that list but we’ll see on that.
The challenging part for Spytek will be finding a quarterback. It’s not going to be the easiest thing to do with the 6th pick in the draft. Vegas will likely have to move up if they want to get their hands on Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward. A costly proposition that has essentially zero talent beyond Brock Bowers.
