The Rafael Devers Drama All Stems From Poor Leadership

In case you missed it, Hanny wrote a post on Rafael Devers taking a dump on Craig Breslow. Here’s my take… maybe he was right to do so!

The bottom line here is that all of this drama starts and ends at the top. This part isn’t arguable. Poor leadership has brought us to this point. It doesn’t have anything to do with the actual player. It has everything to do with the piss poor leadership at the top.

It’s clear and obvious that Craig Breslow is a nerd who doesn’t have these qualities.

It’s clear and obvious that Alex Cora is great at his job in terms of being a manager, but he isn’t educated on the art of leadership.

I could be here all day and link things dating back to Spring Training. They’re all out there to search on your own. In an effort to save time, let’s go over things that happened that can’t be argued.

A: Alex Bregman is signed, Red Sox refuse to name a starting third baseman.

B: Cora comes out and says, “Devers is the DH of the Boston Red Sox” to the point where he’s on record for saying he won’t play third base ever again, even if Bregman needs a day off. Why you would ever publicly pigeonhole a player to the media is incredibly dumb, but that’s a different avenue for another day. Those are his words.

C: Alex Cora says Raffy won’t play first base after the Triston Casas injury happens. That take is immediately backtracked a few days later to where now he’s a consideration to play there before Devers refuses the assignment.

D: Things continue to linger on so badly that the owner of the team feels he needs to step in.

I’m simply stating facts. You can’t argue those bullet points.

The Red Sox remain incredibly average despite having a strong youth pipeline and ready made roster. Why are they underperforming?
