Quinn Hughes Wants The Canucks To Trade For Chris Tanev

Chris Tanev loves Quinn Hughes and apparently, the feeling is mutual. Hughes has gone to bat for his former teammate. So much so that he’s told management in Vancouver that they should go trade for Tanev.

“Chris Tanev’s an interesting one for me, Donnie,” Dhaliwal said. “There’s a tremendous amount of respect for Tanev in the Vancouver organization, top to bottom. Everybody loves the guy. You know Quinn Hughes loves him.

“Quinn Hughes has gone to bat for him this year and told management, ‘Tanev is the guy you should target.’ Tanev loves Vancouver. I know for a fact that if he became a free agent July 1, Vancouver would be very, very, very high on his list of potential places to go.”

Tanev, 34, has just one goal and eight assists through 44 games this season. Of course, putting up points isn’t Tanev’s game. He’s regarded as one of the best defensive blue-liners in the league. Exactly the type of guy that the Canucks need to put around Hughes.

Vancouver won’t exactly be a new environment for Tanev either. The Flames defenseman has played 514 career games with the Canucks playing for Vancouver from 2010 until 2020. It’s not an accident that Hughes wants his old partner back.

Tanev is also a free agent after the conclusion of this season. Keep in mind, Vancouver already acquired a Flames defenseman this season striking a deal for Nikita Zadorov. Maybe they will get a deal done for Tanev too.
