Chris Tanev: Quinn Hughes Is The ‘Best’ Player In The NHL
Is Quinn Hughes the best defenseman in the NHL? Forget about that. Chris Tanev says Hughes is the single best player the league has to offer! Check out what the Flames blue liner said about his former teammate Hughes.
VIA Calgary Sun’s Wes Gilbertson:
“Right now, he is probably the best player in the league,”
“If you watch him play right now, he has the puck the whole game,” Tanev continued. “He controls a lot of the game. … He’s so smart out there. There are guys who are one step ahead of everyone, but I feel like he is two steps ahead of everyone. And just how he skates, how he uses his edges, he is able to create so much space for himself.”
“I think when I left (Vancouver), I said I thought he was going to be the best defenseman in the league at some point,” he said. “He’s playing like that right now, for sure.”
Tanev might be a tad crazy for calling Hughes the best player in the sport, but he might have an argument. Hughes, 24, has 27 points in 17 games with a +15 rating. That’s while skating over 24 minutes per night. Hughes’ progression is obviously one of the biggest reasons why the Canucks have established themselves as contenders.
The more interesting part of this is the fact that guys like Tanev could soon be on the trade block with Calgary continuing to slide. The Canucks are in need of a guy like Tanev and or Nikita Zadorov who recently requested a trade.
