Ladd McConkey is the best wide receiver on the Chargers and it’s not close. Except you knew that months ago if you read my draft notes. I don’t want to sound egotistical but when will you people learn? Quentin Johnston also looks like a flat out bust, but again, that’s something you also knew if you read my draft notes. Nothing about what’s transpired is surprising and I don’t need hindsight bias to figure out what’s going on here.
The former TCU product had a brutal drop in the eventual loss to the Ravens. It’s just a mess right now for Johnston who has taken a leap from his rookie year but there are far too many plays right now that look exactly like this.
The guy is a disaster and he knows it. Credit to Johnston for fully admitting that he’s simply not good enough right now.
“You kind of just learn not to dwell on it too much, and just try to put it past me as much as I can,” Johnston said, via Joe Reedy of the Associated Press. “Obviously I want to have catches back, but I can’t. So I can’t do anything but just learn from it. … I know I’ve got to get better.”
Side note: I’ll still never understand how Tom Telesco picked Johnston in the first round ahead of Zay Flowers and then got the Raider job for sucking with the Chargers. It will never make sense but that’s the world we live in.
