Pro Day 40 Times Are Worthless

Pro Day 40 Times
Pro Day 40 times are worthless. Nobody is buying the cheese that you’re selling. The Combine 40 time is more than enough for me to see. (Geoff Coyle/WV Illustrated)

The single dumbest part of the pre-draft process are Pro Day 40 times. They are a completely useless exercise. You are better off throwing all of the recorded times in the garbage. The Pro Day 40 time has turned into the ultimate lie fest. We know what you ran out the combine, I don’t need to see a fraud version of the same thing at the Pro Day. It’s gotten to the point where agents and players are just trying to make people laugh and that’s the sole goal.

A prime example (and it’s not just him) was Cameron Dantzler who is a cornerback prospect from Mississippi State. Dantzler ran a 4.64 at the combine. Certainly not a great time for a player at the cornerback position. Dantzler proceeds to run the 40 again at his Pro Day. Magically, he runs a 4.38 time at his Pro Day. Who are you trying to fool, bro?

Nobody thinks you run that fast. What you should have done is run a 4.49. This way scouts put you at like 4.55 and feel better that maybe you’re slightly faster than the combine showing. A 4.38 time is just ridiculous. Nobody is buying this cheese you’re selling. Name the time someone didn’t improve their time at the Pro Day?

Again, it’s not just Dantzler. He is one of many examples. I’ll never forget when the Ravens drafted Breshad Perriman based solely on the facet that he ran a fast 40 time at the Pro Day. We gotta just end them. There’s no need to run them. I saw the times at the Combine that are electronically timed. I’m all good.
