PlayStation officially promises PS5 shortage at an end

Finally, it appears that gamers everywhere will have an easier time getting their hands on new consoles. Whenever newer consoles release, it seems as if becomes harder and harder to acquire the new gaming systems. I remember buying an Xbox One or PlayStation 4 was not the easiest task, and this problem continues with the next-generation consoles. However, PlayStation announced the PS5 shortage should be over.

This news comes from Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan, who made the announcement at CES 2023.

“Everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally, starting from this point forward,” Ryan said.

This was not exclusively a PS5 issue as finding an Xbox Series X was nearly as difficult for many people. The PlayStation 5 was released in November 2020, but many gamers could not obtain the new console. There were issues with the supply chain and a specific issue with a global chip shortage, which is used in the PlayStation 5. The high product demand also increased the difficulty of nabbing the console.

The 2023 International CES event, a huge technology affair, was held from January 5-8. At this event, PlayStation said they have now sold 30 million units globally and that December 2022 was their biggest month yet for sales — largely due to Christmas and because more consoles were obtainable compared to past holidays.

What this means for gamers

This is a good sign for all gamers as it means they should have an easier time getting the consoles they want. A lot of games now are built for the next-generation consoles, such as the PlayStation 5, so this will improve fans’ gaming experiences. Also, certain games like NBA 2K23 do not allow cross-gen multiplayer, so PS4 players could not play with friends who had the newer PS5.

This update is important as when a majority of people have next-generation consoles it allows everyone to play more games together. Another reason this update is important is that there are several upcoming popular PlayStation 5 exclusives coming out in 2023. Now, that the PlayStation 5 is easier to obtain gamers can play Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Marvel’s Wolverine when the games come out on the PlayStation 5.
