Week 3 of the NFL season is upon us already. Last week, we saw multiple crazy endings and big performances by some of the top players in the league. However, in terms of my record the previous week with player props, it was pretty disgusting. Darren Waller missed by one receiving yard, Mac Jones threw a deep ball right before half which cost him to go over, and Ja’Maar Chase and Jonathan Taylor didn’t come close to their totals. The only player prop that hit was Ezekiel Elliott’s rushing yards. So the record for player props is 4-6 after an awful 1-4 go-around last week. Hopefully, things can turn around with this week’s picks.
Last week in Miami’s come-behind win against Baltimore, we saw why Tyreek Hill is one of the league’s most dynamic players. Hill racked up 190 yards, which mostly came in the fourth quarter, on 11 receptions. So far in the season, Hill has gone over this number in both games. With the Dolphins playing against Buffalo, I expect this game to be a shootout. Josh Allen and the Bills look like one of the best teams in the league. With the Bills’ dynamic offense, Miami will have to try and match the points Buffalo puts up. Tyreek can take a simple screen 50 yards if he gets any type of space. With the connection Tyreek and Tua Tagovailoa showed last week, I expect Tua to force the ball downfield into his hands once again.
So far, the 49ers have taken a beating in terms of their rushing game this year. Starting running back Elijah Mitchell has been placed on the IR and quarterback Trey Lance is done for the year after his injury last week. Another important piece is now missing from the 49ers ground game in Tyrion Davis-Price, who was second on the depth chart after Mitchell went down. San Francisco now has Jeff Wilson and Deebo Samuel to orchestrate their run game. I think Deebo will get more carries than in the previous two games for the Niners. So far in the early season, Samuel has easily gone over this number in both games. I expect him to hit once again as this is one of my favorite player props on the entire board.
Etienne finally made his NFL debut earlier this year after missing all of last season with an injury. Most people thought he would be atop of the Jaguars’ depth chart, but James Robinson is still RB1 for Doug Pederson. However, Etienne is still a better pass catcher and third-down back than Robinson. With Jacksonville going to LA to face the Chargers, Etienne’s number came in way too low. The Chargers should beat the Jaguars pretty easily. With that being the case, I predict Etienne get on the field more than he has the past two weeks with Jacksonville playing catch-up to the Chargers’ offense. Throughout the first two weeks, Etienne has gone over this number both times on only two catches and three catches. Expect Etienne to get a bigger workload, which would give this player prop too much value.
Flacco has turned back the clock in the first two games for the Jets this year. The Jets have been airing the ball out the first two games of the year. Last week we saw the former Super Bowl-winning quarterback throw for 307 yards after throwing for 309 yards the first week. The Bengals have the 13th-ranked pass defense in the league so far in the season. I don’t expect Flacco to throw for another 300 yards this week, but the 234.5 number came in lower than I expected.
Detroit has been one of the biggest surprises this season with how high scoring their offense has been. St. Brown carried over his success from last season into this year with 180 receiving yards on the year. In his last five games, St. Brown has gone over this number four times pretty easily with week one of this year being the only exception. This game with Minnesota has the makings of being one of the highest-scoring games of the week. Jared Goff has targeted the second-year receiver 12 times in both games which easily makes him Goff’s go-to target. This player prop also has one of the best values across the board.
Hopefully, we can forget about the disgusting record last week and move forward with these five picks. All five have great value to hit. Again, you can tail these picks at your own risk, or completely fade me after last week. However, I’m super excited to lock these in and make some profit for the weekend. Come back next week to see the updated record and the player props for Week 4.
