Just days after trading Kevin Dotson to the Los Angeles Rams, the Pittsburgh Steelers shop another offensive lineman, trading Kendrick Green to the Houston Texans for a sixth-round pick as compensation. NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero was among the first to report the news.
Green was selected as a third-round pick by the Steelers in 2021, where he played center for his rookie season. However, the Steelers signed Mason Cole forcing Green to move to guard. However, Dotson beat him out for the starting role and was inactive for all 17 games.
The Steelers simply have a surplus of linemen and needed to move off some of them. This works perfectly for a Texans team looking to rebuild their offensive line.
Outside of Laremy Tunsil, this entire offensive line is basically up for grabs and in need of a rework, which could be the perfect spot for a guy like Kendrick Green.
Kendrick Green has shown he can be a capable starter on an offensive line and should be an upgrade for this Texans team. The Texans also traded for tackle Josh Jones last week from the Arizona Cardinals.
The Texans still have a while before this rebuild will be complete, but it’s never a bad idea to try and make your rookie quarterback as comfortable as possible. Starting by giving them the protection they need on the offensive line is a good start.
It’s clear the Texans want to keep C.J. Stroud protected and I can’t really say I blame them. This isn’t some trade that’s going to suddenly turn the Texans into contenders. Hell, nothing could do that at this point. But it is at least a step in the right direction.
