The 76ers wasted little time on its head coaching search, tabbing former Raptors coach Nick Nurse as Doc Rivers’ replacement on Monday, as first reported by Adrian Wojnarowski.

Nurse was one of the better names on the market and is certainly an upgrade over the overrated Doc Rivers. Rivers, who spent three years in Philadelphia, was far from the only problem with that Sixer team, but he certainly didn’t help a whole lot.
The addition of Nurse is a good move for a 76ers team that is clearly trying to win now. The franchise’s window with Joel Embiid gets smaller and smaller with each passing season, especially considering his injury history. No one knows how many more elite years he truly can give the Sixers, so if they want to win with Embiid they have to do it now.
However, Nurse’s arrival in Philly doesn’t immediately turn this team into a championship-level team, though I do feel it’s a step in the right direction. Nurse is a proven winner in this league, with an NBA championship to prove it. He has also shown his ability to make smart in-game adjustments, something Rivers was horrible at.
Again, this isn’t going to be a move that single handedly completes “The Process.” But I do believe Nick Nurse is/will be the best coach in Embiid’s tenure with the franchise, and can hopefully break the franchise’s apparent second-round curse.
This roster still needs some work, especially with James Harden set to leave in free agency and depth still a major question mark. Nurse has shown the ability to win games with lesser teams and it’s a trait I’m sure the Sixers are hoping he brings over.
