Pete Carroll, a veteran NFL coach who had a vast amount of success with the Seattle Seahawks, is now the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. This change in scenery was a fresh start for Carroll who had spent 14 years in Seattle. However, shortly after he was hired as the head coach, the Raiders made a bold move by acquiring quarterback Geno Smith from the Seahawks
The fresh start was short-lived. These offseason moves reunite Carroll and Smith with a new home in the AFC West. This pairing might be puzzling for NFL fans as the Seahawks were not a postseason threat. However, Carroll helped revitalize Geno Smith’s career as a starting quarterback. Now, Pete Carroll thinks the two can be an amazing fit in Las Vegas.

“To me, he’s been emblematic of what a leader should be by his habits and by the way he brings himself every day.”
Pete Carroll is a big fan of Smith and is trying to quiet any doubts that the Raiders should have looked for another free agent QB or grabbed one in the NFL Draft. Also, he wanted to give confidence to the Raiders fans base that him and his QB are ready to succeed this season.
“we were trying to see if we could make some sense of it, we were both excited about it. And so I feel, really, like we’re connected at the hip.”
The reunion of Pete Carroll and Geno Smith in Las Vegas will hopefully bring a sense of continuity and optimism to the Raiders. Their past experience with the Seahawks and mutual respect should give them a strong foundation for success. However, the two situations are never the same. The rosters are vastly different, and the franchises have different cultures.
While the connection between coach and quarterback is undeniable, the ultimate measure of their success will be on the field. It will be interesting to see if the two can spark a winning season for Las Vegas. The two will have weapons at their disposal in All-Pro tight end Brock Bowers and new 6th overall pick RB Ashton Jeanty. Now, only time will tell if Pete Carroll and Geno Smith can create a new legacy with the Las Vegas Raiders.
