New England has found their replacement for impending free agent LeGarrette Blount. The Patriots have decided to sign former Bengals running back Rex Burkhead. The team has announced the move.
Welcome to New England, @RBrex2022!
The terms of the contract are not known yet but Burkhead fits everything the Pats are looking for. He is a core special teams player as well. In limited carries behind Jeremy Hill and Gio Bernard, Burkhead had 74 carries and 344 rushing yards that resulted in 4.6 yards per carry. This move likely spells the end for LeGarrette Blount as Burkhead will likely serve as the goal line guy for New England. The Patriots have been very busy this offseason that included the monster trade for Brandin Cooks.
The Bengals with Jeremy Hill and Gio Bernard could afford to let Burkhead just walk as he has had limited carries for his entire career.
Adrian Peterson, LeGarrette Blount, Latavius Murray, Jamaal Charles, Darren McFadden, and DeAngelo Williams are just some of the remaining free agent running backs.
