Patrick Mahomes Is Super Impressed With Mecole Hardman

The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Georgia wide receiver Mecole Hardman in the 2nd round of the 2019 NFL Draft. It may prove to be one of the most important moves of the entire draft. Tyreek Hill should/will be suspended any day because of the domestic allegations. The Chiefs also have Sammy Watkins but I think the entire world already knows he sucks. Hardman better show up right away because Travis Kelce can only do so much by himself.

Thus far, it looks like Patrick Mahomes proves certainly approves of his new weapon:

He’s a great player,” Mahomes said of Hardman. “Obviously, he’s very fast, but he’s working on everything, route-running, getting accustomed to the offense, I was very excited. When you add guys and add depth, it really is a special thing to know that the staff and everybody keeps adding and are never satisfied with where we are at, we are going to keep getting better every single year.”

87 catches, 1,479 yards, 12 touchdowns. That’s what Mecole Hardman has to replace. Good luck with that. If you were curious, Hardman reeled in just 35 catches at Georgia. He’s a really explosive receiver but a tough player to evaluate because of limited production. It’s not entirely his fault because of how run-heavy the Georgia offense is. Hardman did manage a staggering 15.5 yards per catch mark which is just shy of what Hill did (17) in 2018. Obviously, the jump to college is a different story.

What I will say is that Hardman is one of the best fantasy dart throws in recent memory. What do you have to lose? Patrick Mahomes threw 50 touchdowns last year. Let’s say he throws 40, right? Seems more than reasonable. Kelce gets 12, Watkins gets his usual 4, and the running backs snatch up 6. That’s still a ton of touchdowns that are going to someone.

The good news is Watkins didn’t do a whole lot in 2018. Watkins needs to be better than 500 yards. He has to. Chris Conley also left for Jacksonville this offseason. If Watkins gets hurt again (he will) you are going to see a lot of Gehrig Dieter and Demarcus Robinson.
