Chicago Blackhawks star forward Patrick Kane is still deciding on waiving his no-movement clause ahead of the NHL’s trade deadline, according to his agent Pat Brisson.
Kane has been in an interesting situation since suiting up for the Blackhawks in this season. He’s had a career low in points in his 16-year NHL career with only 34 points in 45 games this season. The assistant captain currently holds a cap hit of $10.5 million this year on his contract. It may be a hefty price for the aged star, but who wouldn’t want Kane in their lineup?
Kane hasn’t spoken out on any favorable trade destinations. But, with Chicago looking to start the rebuild, it seems reasonable to dump Kane to a contender. Some notable teams that I think should try to trade for the Blackhawk are the Carolina Hurricanes, Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, and New York Rangers. All those teams are in the hunt for the Stanley Cup this year.
As of right now, the Chicago Blackhawks have no utter intention to win hockey games. The Kane and Jonathan Toews era is closing its doors and frankly, it’s sad to see. Why would they want to waste their last years in the NHL not wanting to win?
It’s a slow death for these two stars. All 16 years of their careers, Toews and Kane have been the other’s right-hand man. From day one, when they stepped onto the ice in Chicago, they have been essentially a married couple.
As the rumors slowly fall into place, they will trade Kane from the Blackhawks or will sign somewhere else. It will be a sad day for all Blackhawk and NHL fans. I just hope Kane can go out winning.
