It’s the red wedding all over again. It’s a complete and utter disaster at ESPN right now as they continue to fire people left and right. In case you have been living under a rock and don’t know what’s going on, here is a link to a good portion of the ESPN layoffs. A lot of these people are being fired to make room for the new Pat McAfee show. The former Colts punter wants to make sure something like this never happens again at ESPN. Good luck with that!
Built on stone.

“I did a lot of reflecting about our show’s journey while I was getting murdered on the internet today (hell yeah).. all roads lead back to how honored I am to be the leader of such a talented group and how lucky I am to be a part of this team (a few missing from pics and a couple I couldn’t tag),” McAfee tweeted on Friday.
“We do our thing. We enjoy ourselves. And we never blink… Basement, box truck, world stoppage.. you name it.. the show rolls on.
“We’re very pumped to be joining ESPN and our goal is that ‘Mass exits’ are never a thing again.. we hope to help that.. obviously that’s a lofty goal but, that’s how I truly look at life… I wish we could’ve worked alongside a lot of the folks that got released today.
“Some absolute legends, that we all respect, in the sports media world were trending today for losing jobs. That sucks.. no matter how you slice it.”
Jackson spoke a lot about this on the video he dropped but it’s going to be almost impossible for McAfee to stop the inevitable. ESPN is a significant amount of money because of cord cutting. The streaming platforms aren’t making any money either. The more people that cut cable, the more jobs that are going to be lost. That’s not even including the regional sports network disaster.
ESPN is betting that Pat McAfee can single handily save their network along with ESPN. McAfee has a super large audience but it remains to be seen how many follow him to ESPN.
