Panthers Trade Diontae Johnson To The Ravens

The receiver trade market continues to be on fire. The only difference is, Dan Morgan is the only one who found a way to get robbed in the process. Which is no surprise since he’s botched basically everything he’s touched since taking over in Carolina. Diontae Johnson has been traded to the Ravens and the return is laughable.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was the first to report the news:

I normally like to keep the news stories unbiased but it’s pretty hard to do so. How do you trade Johnson for a nothing pick swap? Cleveland got a third for Amari Cooper. Ditto for the Raiders and Davante Adams. Tennessee got a 5th for a washed version of DeAndre Hopkins.

Dan Morgan got a nothing pick swap. If the Ravens let Johnson go in free agency, they will get more for the comp pick. I don’t understand how you even make this deal considering that. But it’s the Panthers so I guess nothing they do is surprising.

Johnson, 28, has 30 receptions for 357 yards and three scores through seven games. He sort of rounds out this receiver room with Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman as the lead dogs. From a Ravens perspective, it’s hard to hate this addition given the price. It’s also nota bad idea to acquire a guy who might want to get some revenge on the Steelers. Then again, the Steelers have that same sort of thing with Patrick Queen on their side so maybe that’s a moot point.
