The Green Bay Packers aren’t usually players in the free agent market but made sure to strike while the iron was hot just prior to the start of the regular season. Linebacker Ahmad Brooks will be the latest addition to the Packers who will sign a one-year deal with the team.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network had the latest on the newest signee:
The #Packers are signing LB Ahmad Brooks to a 1-year deal that can be worth up to $5M, source said. Another(!) GB free agent signing coming.

Brooks has spent his entire career with the San Francisco 49ers up until the team released him earlier this offseason. Brooks has proved to be a really productive player as he ranked third All-Time in 49ers sack leaders (51.5 career sacks). With the 49ers rebuilding, younger options such as Eli Harold and Reuben Foster will earn much needed playing time.
Brooks, 33, will provide much needed depth in Green Bay. Outside of Clay Matthews and Nick Perry, the Packers don’t have much of a pass rush beyond those two. Brooks recorded 6 sacks a year ago and figures to replace the veteran void of Julius Peppers who departed this offseason.
