The Orlando Magic made a surprising playoff appearance in 2018-2019. Can they keep the momentum going and move up the hierarchy in the East? That’s the big question in Orlando. The Magic finished as the 7 seed last year and even took a game from the eventual champion Raptors in the first round. What’s in store for the Magic as they open up the 2019-2020 season?
Key Additions: Al-Farouq Aminu
The Magic signed Al-Farouq Aminu to a 3-year contract worth $29 million. Not a terrible buy. Aminu has always been a plus defender and has improved his shooting touch over the years. Last year in Portland, Aminu 9.4 points per game on 43 percent shooting. He’s not the best pure scorer ever but he provides some value to a team. A nice guy to have off the bench.
Key Departures: NONE
The Magic really didn’t lose anything. The only thing they really lost was the pick they used for Markelle Fultz. Therefore, I’ll go on a little bit of a Fultz rant. Does anybody believe in this guy? I hope he figures his shit out because right now it’s tough to watch.
Potential Starting Lineup: DJ Augustin, Evan Fournier, Aaron Gordon, Jonathan Isaac, Nikola Vucevic
Really, you’re banking on this team to continue to get better. Another year older, another year better? Young guns like Isaac, Bamba, and Fultz need to take leaps. Simple as that. These young guys pan out and the Magic could make some noise. I think you’re looking at a 6 or 7 seed? In a bad Eastern Conference, maybe they can grab the 5 seed who knows.
