Only Matter Of Time Before VGK Trade Laurent Brossoit?

The Vegas Golden Knights have the best record in the NHL and they’re getting great goalie play. Logan Thompson (as predicted) and Adin Hill have both played really well when called upon. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. If so, where in the world does that leave, Laurent Brossoit?

Brossoit, 29, was the VGK backup to Robin Lehner a year ago. Now he’s currently sitting in the AHL on loan trying to come back from offseason hip surgery. All reports suggest that he’s very close to being ready for NHL action. The only problem is, Brossoit doesn’t crack this lineup. Thompson and Hill are just flat better.

A year ago, Brossoit notched a .895 SV% for Vegas. That’s not close to the numbers that Hill and Thompson are sporting this season.

Hill: .925 SV%, 2.17 GAA, 5-0 record.

Thompson: .934 SV%, 2.01 GAA, 6-2 record.

Yes, it’s early and yes the new coach has something to do with it. However, the fact remains that there is no spot for Brossoit on this roster. Barring injury, there is zero reason to start Brossoit. Even if injury, I’m not sure I have any interest in watching Brossoit on this team that’s rolling. He’s walking swiss cheese in the net.

Logan Thompson Has Earned The Golden Knights Starting Goalie Job

Brossoit feels like perfect trade bait if Kelly McCrimmon can get someone to bite. Are the Leafs a potential taker given the injuries to Ilya Samsonov and Matt Murray? McKenzie Blackwood just got hurt for the Devils. Jake Oettinger and Jeremy Swayman are both on the shelf as well. For a team that has burnt away assets in the past, now feels like a great time to try to replenish that for future use.

Personally speaking, I would be asking for Nicholas Robertson in a Leafs panic trade, but that’s just me.
