On this date – April 30th, 2015: The first round of the 2015 NFL Draft began. It likely won’t go down as a super memorable one. When you go back through past draft history, you realize most of the prospects never really make an impact or underperform to the hype they go predraft. Always a good lesson. You better love the guy you pick or don’t pick him.
The Bucs took Jameis Winston with the first pick. Rollercoaster city. The Titans went with Marcus Mariota at 2. That one was a complete flop. I knew that one was coming. Dante Fowler went 3 who has underachieved. Called that one too. Amari Cooper has been pretty much as advertised with the 4th pick. Brandon Scherff has turned into a really good guard. That’s your top 5. Snoozefest.
One of my biggest misses ever since watching the NFL Draft goes to Leonard Williams. I thought he was going to be a monster. He’s been more of a tooth fairy. Does enough to make you believe but mostly disappears. I still don’t understand what happened? Overall, my 5 picks to be can’t miss guys went fairly well. How about my call about Eric Kendricks!
Some of the bigger hits from that first round include Todd Gurley at 9 to the Rams, Melvin Gordon at 15 to the Chargers, Marcus Peters at 18 to the Chiefs, and Byron Jones at 27 to the Cowboys. Even these guys, how many of these guys are still with their original team… Crazy to think about. Gurley’s knees are shot too. How many good years does he have left? That was just 5 years ago.
This entire draft is littered with busts. Not just busts, guys who couldn’t play a lick. Kevin White, Ereck Flowers, Cedric Ogbuehi and Shane Ray are some of those names.
