The vast majority of the internet knows who Dave Portnoy is. The founder of Barstool Sports produces a multitude of content, but one of his most well known bits is his pizza review show One Bite. Portnoy even took it a step further and created his own frozen pizza brand tied to One Bite. After some waiting, I was finally able to get my hands on a pizza and give it a try.
So it took a while for me to get this pizza to review. I live out in the middle of nowhere. Memphis is a little over an hour from me and it’s 25 or so minutes until my nearest Walmart supercenter. My local grocery store does not carry them, but I finally found an excuse to make the trip.
Personally, I feel like I know my frozen pizzas. I’ve been eating them my entire life. Red Barron, Digiorno, Totinos, Freshetta, and countless other brands. I’ve had them all. So I guess you can say that I am a frozen pizza connoisseur. With that established, let me tell you that this was one of the best frozen pizzas I have ever had.
First, the look out of the oven is incredible. I went with the cheese because the cheese is the base of all pizzas. If you screw up a cheese pizza, I can’t trust you with the extras. As I stated above, it is one of the best, if not the best, tasting frozen pizzas I have ever had. Most basic frozen pizzas are just the cheese with their cardboard crust, but Dave went above and beyond with the herbs and sauce of One Bite.
Crust can make or break any pizza, regardless of toppings. Local place in my town is reasonably priced and toppings are good, but the crust literally has no taste. If they would just mix in some salt when making their crust it would make a massive difference. For One Bite, I was satisfied with the taste. Actual flavor that enhanced what I was getting from the toppings.
Frozen pizzas can’t really touch freshly made pizzas. They are completely different categories. But Portnoy’s One Bite Frozen pizza is as good as it’s gonna get. With a price tag of just under $7, the taste and price make it worth the 25 minute drive to buy these bad boys in bulk. You will not be disappointed with One Bite Frozen Pizza.
