Oakland Athletics’ reverse boycott is coming at a great time

The Oakland Athletics fanbase has been planning a “reverse boycott” for fans of the club to really show how much they care about the team. Thousands of loyal fans are planning to pack out the usually-deserted Oakland Coliseum on Tuesday, June 13, in an effort to show the organization that they care enough to keep them in Oakland.

The A’s have been executing a move to Las Vegas, one that has been rumored for several years now. They have one foot out of the door in Oakland, as they have been strategically putting a lame product on the field in an effort to get out of the city as fast as possible.

Organizers of the event plan on giving out T-Shirts to fans to the first 7,000 fans in attendance. The shirts say “SELL” on them. Only around 8,000 people go to Oakland’s games every night, and even that number might be exaggerated. The goal of this event is to stick it to ownership and promise that the fans of the A’s are not ready to lay down and die just yet.

″Being here since 2004, which was my first year in this stadium, the bond that you get with this group of fans and fan base, you know the passion, you know the love regardless like I always talk about of the numbers,” A’s manager Mark Kotsay said to AP.

“The difference this season is they’re in an uncharted territory with the direction of this organization. It’s only right for them to come out tomorrow and in one aspect peacefully display their feelings toward this organization possibly moving and the hope on our end is they also support the players, and I think they will.”

As for the A’s, this boycott couldn’t come at a better time. The team has won six straight games for the first time this season. That streak alone is one-third of their win total on the season. This win streak may keep them from being amongst the worst baseball teams of all time, as their record sitting at 18-50.

The win streak has been nothing short of pure entertainment. There is something about a really bad team beating good teams –and that’s exactly what the A’s have done in the past week. They took two of three from the first-place Pirates, swept a solid Brewers team, and won the first game against the best team in baseball, the Tampa Bay Rays.

Hopefully, the Athletics can keep the good time rolling on Tuesday with a ton of fans in attendance. You’d love to see the fans stick it in ownership’s face. After years of not supporting them with a lackluster product, they deserve this.
