Novak Djokovic has defeated Nick Kyrgios in the Finals of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. The champion has now been victorious at the All England Tennis Club for four years in a row.
Although Djokovic struggled to open the match, he quickly found his groove in the second set. The Serbian superstar won the final in four sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3). After winning today, Novak has accumulated a total of 21 grand slam championships, one grand slam behind Rafael Nadal.
Djokovic will now turn his sights towards a 22nd grand slam title. The U.S. Open, the final of the four slams in 2022, is set for August, but unless the country’s vaccination policies change, the 35-year-old will not be participating. Djokovic has already said he will not be getting the vaccine before the Aug. 29 start date.
“I’ll just have to wait and see,” Djokovic said. “I would love to go to States. But as of today, that’s not possible. There is not much I can do anymore. I mean, it’s really up to the U.S. government to make a decision whether or not they allow unvaccinated people to go into the country.”
