Northeast Pennsylvania Deer Forecast: Week of October 23

For the five readers that I have and the other millions that would love to read this forecast, deer hunters: It’s time.

The 4^th week of October is here and the remainder of this month plus the first week of November are some of the most exciting times to be in the woods. It is important to remember that while the rut should be kicking off, it’s not on all the time. It could be on the neighbor’s property and a ghost town on your property.

Get as many sits in as you can in for the next 21 days and chances are you’ll see a ton of action. Hunters can feel lucky that not only should the rut be firing up, but weather conditions look very favorable.

High pressure will hold over our area and temperatures will be in line with historical averages for this time of the year. We are working our way toward a full moon on Saturday 10/28 and minor feeding times align with our evening sits.

Last week, we predicted a number of small bucks would be seeking and I definitely saw just that in my time in the woods.

This week, we should get some active chasing. Find the doe and there is a good chance that a big boy will come around. I did get a number of reports this week of shooter buck on their feet and actively searching in daylight hours.
