Does anybody care about Bomani Jones? He’s no longer at ESPN anymore. The last I heard of him, he was at ESPN and essentially got cut because nobody watched his awful High Noon show. For some reason, HBO thought people were going to watch him on their platform and nobody did.
“HBO invested seven figures into failed ESPN host Bomani Jones, and the partnership could not be off to a worse start.
Despite directly following John Oliver’s top-rated Last Week Tonight, Race Theory with Bomani Jones debuted last week to just 153,000 viewers, losing a stunning 80% of his lead’s in viewership.
If you think that’s bad, Jones tanked even further this past Sunday. How many viewers watched episode 2? We don’t exactly know because the number was so low that it failed to chart.
UPDATE: According to Nielsen data, Bomani Jones’ HBO show drew only 44,000 viewers on Sunday, down from 153,000 the week before. For comparison, CNBC went commercial only at 2 am on Sunday and drew 83,000.”
I have not seen the new show on HBO but I’m sure it’s awful. If you want to watch a clip of his new show, you can see that here. I’m sure I don’t need to watch it after reading Jerry Thornton’s blog documenting some really questionable stuff Jones was saying in the clip.
HBO is learning the hard way. A lot of these ESPN rejects were never talented, to begin with. Jones is one of them. HBO canceled Bill Simmons’ show on their network and that show was drawing way more viewers. Jones is on borrowed time as an ESPN reject and will be cut by HBO soon enough.
