People can say whatever they want about how NIL and the transfer portal ruined college football. Maybe they’re right (even though I don’t agree). However, this one aspect you can’t deny. NIL and the transfer portal is a great thing in regards to the NFL Draft.
We know the deal when it comes to the NFL.
NFL as in not for long.
Once you enter the NFL, the clock starts. Teams are not patient and will throw you down the toilet if they even sniff struggles. People are already ready to quit on Bryce Young and none of the Panthers’ struggles have anything to do with him. It’s just the sad reality of the sport.
In the past players would declare for the draft too early. They would flame out and that would be the end of them. A player like Bo Nix never would be in this spot he is in right now. He’s got more money in his pocket while giving him the necessary time to develop. Sounds like a great thing to me.
It’s hard to argue. Look at how many quarterbacks are in the transfer portal right now. All of those guys would have entered the draft under the old format. Then they would have flamed out and nobody would have cared. Now? They get extra time to develop and real scouts can view them in new environments. It helps the evaluation and it helps the kids get extra time they need to develop.
Sounds like a win to me. Just saying…
Cry about NIL and the portal all you want. Just remember that there is no denying this is an improved benefit when it comes to the draft itself.
