Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic, arguably the best player in the NBA, has won the league’s 2023-24 Most Valuable Player award, the NBA announced Wednesday.
This gives Jokic his third MVP in four seasons. He now becomes the ninth player in NBA history to win three MVPs, the first since LeBron James won his third MVP (of four total) in 2011-12, when he was still with the Miami Heat.
Here are the other names he joined:
Jokic secured the award and Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dallas’ Luka Doncic, who made a very promising late surge during the latter portion of the season.
Jokic earned 79 of the 99 first-place votes with 18 second-place finishes and two third-place finishes. Gilgeous-Alexander tallied 15 first-place votes, 40 second-place votes and 40 third-place votes; Doncic had four first-place votes, 38 second-place votes and 50 second-place votes.
The only other first-place nod went to Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo. New York’s Jalen Brunson, Boston’s Jayson Tatum, Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards, New York’s Domantas Sabonis and Phoenix’s Kevin Durant were the only others who received at least one top-5 vote, respectively.
Here is how the votes shaped out:
