New York City Bans Discrimination Against Hair Styles, Will The Yankees Get Rid Of Their Egregious Hair Policy?

Reason number one and I mean number one out of the 800 why I hate the New York Yankees starts and ends with their egregious hair policy. In 1973, the late great George Steinbrenner introduced a rule that forced players to shave beards. No facial hair outside of a simple mustache. No hair past the collar. It’s bullshit. It’s unAmerican. It’s offensive. As a beard guy myself, there is 100 percent certainty if I played for them that I’m not shaving for a team that’s as evil as the Yankees. No chance. I would rather request a trade.

Today we got some news. Employers are no longer allowed to discriminate against hair styles in New York City:

“Now employers, schools and clubs that discriminate against natural hair and styles like afros, cornrows and dreadlocks can get a $250,000 fine.

New Yorkers can no longer be forced to have “professional” hair — whatever that means.

They now have the legal right to wear their locks in locs — or au naturale, or styled in afros, cornrows, dreadlocks, twists, braids, Bantu knots and other ‘dos at work, in school, as well as in fitness clubs and nightclubs, under new regulations issued by the New York City Commission on Human Rights on Monday.

And any grooming or appearance policies that ban natural hair or hairstyles can be subject to a $250,000 fine.”

Well, well well. Would you look at that. Looks like the Yankees are facing a big dilemma. Get rid of the policy. The Yankees for years have had this mantra that we are better than you. We force our players to shave. We don’t put our last names on jerseys because shameful to do so. We all own yachts because our team has way more financial resources to spend money than anyone else.

That’s what the Evil Empire was when I was growing up. Now they are just a big fat fraud. Hal Steinbrenner pockets more cash and they don’t win nearly enough to warrant bullshit hair rules. Now the government is rioting against them. What a world we live in. Everything is coming up Boston.

Nobody and I mean nobody likes the Yankees version of Johnny Damon. Even Yankee fans didn’t live the beardless version of him. Damon was a sellout for signing with the Yankees to begin with. A bunch of idiots was the entire rallying cry behind 2004.

That’s just not even Andrew McCutchen. These rules are old fashion and out of date. They give me a reason to hate the Yankees above all else. No other Sports league in the world forces players to do this. Just the Yankees. Now the Yankees will get fined.

“And any grooming or appearance policies that ban natural hair or hairstyles can be subject to a $250,000 fine.”

I’m serious. If I’m a player in the Yankees organization, I’m pulling this up and threatening to report the team unless the team let me keep my beard. I’m not even asking to go full James Harden. I’m okay with stubble. This hair policy is archaic and needs to go. Do the right thing, Yankees. I’ll have more respect for you.
