New Music Friday (4/7/23) Includes Daniel Caesar, NF and More

Daniel Caesar – NEVER ENOUGH

Daniel Caesar is no longer a stranger to New Music Fridays after periodically dumping new music these past weeks. There has been a total of four new singles this year alone along with Never Enough being released. Off of the first few listens, it has a nice variety. This is in reference to the production, tempo of the songs, and overall feel of them all.

The songs I would recommend in the 15 song track list are “Do You Like Me?”, “Toronto 2014” feat. Mustafa and “Homiesexual” feat. Ty Dolla $ign. These offer a nice variety and are some of the best tracks in the album.

NF – Hope

I used to be a big fan of NF, especially at the time of his hit release “Let You Down” and enjoyed albums such as Perception and The Search. However, he has just kind of fallen out of my rotation and doesn’t hit the same for me anymore. Because of that I went into this album thinking this was not going to be good.

To my surprise NF actually delivered a respectable album this New Music Friday. Now that doesn’t mean I am going to listen to this again, but there are some points in this album that caught my attention. Songs like “Careful” feat. Cordae, “Mama,” “Turn My Back” are some of these songs that made me double take.

NBA YoungBoy – WTF ft Nicki Minaj

This was one of the most disappointing singles this New Music Friday. The beat and background sample were the highlight of the track and with the star power of these two celebrities that should not be the case. Not visiting this single again after this Friday.

KAYTRANADA & Aminé (KAYTRAMINÉ) – 4EVA ft Pharrell Williams

Kaytranada and Aminé have announced they are working on a collab album that will be released soon and premiere that announcement with a new single this Friday. The duo brought together a nice house music type of sound with this single. Aminé brought a monotone rap tempo, but it paired amazingly with Pharrell, who brought stuttering vocals that act as a bridge between the multiple verses. The production really brought the song together and made it complete. Fantastic job by Kaytranada.

Joyner Lucas – Blackout feat. Future

This release was a much more enjoyable experience than his last release “Devil’s Work 2.” With the new release of “Blackout” this Friday, it appears an album is in the near future for the artist. This is due to both of his newest songs having the same cover art. It also seems that the album title is going to be Not Now, I’m Busy.

Redveil & JPEGMAFIA – black enuff

JPEGMAFIA may have just tapped into some of Redveil’s built up potential. I have been a fan of Redveil ever since his 2022 album Learn 2 Swim was released, but the biggest issue I have had with his music is it all is very similar. That being said I appreciate an artist having a sound that is theirs, but a little variety sprinkled here and there offers nice versatility that is important to have.

This single did just that. It tapped into a different area of Redveil which I found very interesting from his more slower and melodic tempo tracks.
