New Music Friday (4/7/23) Includes Rae Sremmurd, Drake and More
Rae Sremmurd – Sremm 4 Life
Rae Sremmurd have come back with their new album Sremm 4 Life this New Music Friday. Their fourth collaboration is a very consistent album throughout each track. However, there isn’t really a song that strikes as a hit like their previous “Black Beattles” or “Come Get Her.”
That’s not to say that there aren’t any good songs, in fact, “Not So Bad (Leans Gone Cold)” is one of my favorite tracks. This was the song that people were most excited for coming out as the chorus, sampled from Eminem’s hit song “Stan,” was leaked on an Instagram video. In this single they used that chorus from “Stan” and sampled it into a New York drill beat.
Besides that, songs like “Activate” ft Future and “Flaunt It/Cheap” offer a nice variety and have a nice sound that make them some of the more appealing songs on the album. Like I said, it’s a consistent album but nothing SPECIAL like their previous work. Still a good listen this New Music Friday.
Drake – Search & Rescue
Drake released his newest single which had gone viral on TikTok after a leak of the song got released with a Kim Kardashian sample. The many videos flooded the internet making this single one of the most anticipated of the year.
Definitely a must listen this Friday and probably my favorite release this week. The Kim Kardashian sample definitely makes this song along with the nice change of pace in the second half of the song.
Lil Yachty – Strike (Holster)
This is another song that went viral on TikTok after Lil Yachty’s sister had leaked the song paired with her vocals on the famous snippet of “Holster.” However, unlike the Drake song, this hype has gone and went after it has been weeks since it was leaked.
Along with that, most fans are disappointed that the viral snippet was not the chorus but rather one of the last verses. The song is still a good listen this Friday and Lil Yachty continues to excel since his album Let’s Start Here.
Joey Bada$$ – Fallin’
This Friday Joey Bada$$ is in his RnB bag with “Fallin.” In this song there is a much slower tempo than what listeners are used to, and the production has a nice jazzy synth in the background to really elevate the beat. This song is a similar style to “Show Me” from his latest album 2000, however, he is the one doing the vocals, chorus and verses. He demonstrated his nice versatility with this release.
DC The Don – Hate Being Lonely
DC The Don is very slept on. He is versatile, trendy and has a nice sound. With his newest single this Friday, it goes against his rage music that he is most known for and is a slow sad song that can resonate with the listener on the topic of loneliness. Can’t wait for more recognition to come his way.
Conway the Machine – Quarters
The production in this song is immaculate. I have no idea what that sound is that is in the back layers of the beat, but it really brings the rest of the song forward and out to the listener. An enjoyable listen this Friday, but not a fan of his music all together yet.
