New Music Friday (4/13/23) Includes PARTYNEXTDOOR, Post Malone and More

PARTYNEXTDOOR – PARTYMOBILE (Chopped Not Slopped)

Members of The Chopstars, DJ Candlestick and OG Ron C turned the normal 2020 album PARTYMOBILE into a Chopped Not Slopped version. I am not a big fan of the Chopped Not Slopped subgenre, however, there’s something for everyone this New Music Friday.

Post Malone – Chemical

This love song by Post Malone is going to be a radio hit. Chemical sounds like something from a movie and is just very catchy. If you enjoy the newer Post Malone era, this song will be right up your alley.

NBA YoungBoy – Rear View ft. Mariah The Scientist

Another New Music Friday release from NBA YoungBoy with the same cover art as the last. An album or EP has to be coming soon from the rapper in the next few weeks.

Rear View is a nice collaboration between YoungBoy and Mariah The Scientist, who easily elevates any rap song she is on. The single brought a delightful melodic performance from the two artist and is a good listen this weekend.

Dominic Fike – Dancing In The Courthouse

This has the same vibe as the Post Malone song Chemical, however, this one is more enjoyable. Maybe it is the fact he is both singing and rapping, and my brain enjoys that more than just singing. Nevertheless, both of these songs are going to be very popular especially on the standard radio. Enjoyable track by Fike this Friday.

Jorja Smith – Try Me

Try Me based off the production, singing, and cover art sounds as if she is going to war. The beat is a steady pace but sounds intense. Her singing with the lyrics makes it sound as if it’s a war with an ex, and finally her face paint looks as if it could be battling paint.

Jorja Smith performed spectacularly and was able to change the pace and make the song unique in it’s own way, which I heavily appreciate.

Yung Bleu – Love Scars II

The sequel to his Love Scars, Love Scars II explores his relationship with women and lovers in particular once again. Yung Bleu brings multiple styles of rap and singing with this new album which makes it much easier to listen to than a receptive album. Some songs are slow singing, others could include a faster rapping style which refreshes the listener.

Songs like “Waterfalls” featuring Ty Dolla $ign, “Distant Lover” featuring Chris Brown, and “Stingy” featuring Tink should be the first to be checked out this New Music Friday.

Saba & No I.D. – Back In Office

I love Saba especially on some of his work from Few Good Things released in 2022, however, this was nothing like that. This was a new side, for me at least, that I have seen from Saba, and it looks promising.

Instead of what I am used to, his melodic/mellow rap performances, he just straight rapped for the entirety of the song in a straight manner. Hope he keeps on exploring his style, can’t wait to see what else he brings this year.

Jean Deaux – HEAVY (EP)

I have never heard of Jean Deaux before this, but I am glad I have now. Heavy was so versatile; every song was different than the last as if she is experimenting and I love it. I find a project more enjoyable when the artist is testing and brings something new to the table each track.

At some points she reminded me of Kali Uchis, others she was nowhere near that comparison. Great project and listen this New Music Friday.

Doe Boy – Roll The Dice ft. DeJ Loaf

This collaboration was heavenly to listen to from start to finish. Doe Boy’s raspier voice is a very nice compliment to the Angelic singing from DeJ Loaf. Underrated track this Friday.
