Jamal Crawford is back in the NBA! The Brooklyn Nets basically have their entire team planning to sit out for the bubble in Orlando. DeAndre Jordan, Spencer Dinwiddie, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Taurean Prince will all sit out. That meant the Nets had plenty of roster spots to fill. Crawford is back and will sign with the Nets for the remainder of the year.
Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic was the first to report the news:
Crawford, 40, played 64 games during the 2018-19 season for the Suns. That’s the last time he’s put on an NBA uniform. Many wondered why Crawford didn’t get a shot at the start of this season. Crawford may not be a good defender, but he’s a walking bucket. Crawford is a 3-time 6th man of the year award winner and has always been a scoring threat off the bench.
Let’s be honest about one thing. The Nets have no shot to win the title this year. Crawford at least gets an opportunity to play and show that maybe he has something left. This is a big opportunity for Crawford. If he can show he can still play, a contract is on the line in the offseason. Crawford has much more to play for than the rest of the Nets do in what appears to be a lost season for Brooklyn.
The best thing for the Nets may be missing the postseason. However, that’s not going to happen with a 6 game lead over the Wizards and only 8 regular season games to go inside the bubble.
