Nets Name Jacque Vaughn as the new Head Coach

Just 8 days after parting ways with former head coach Steve Nash. The Brooklyn Nets announced today that Jacque Vaughn, who has been the interim coach since Nash’s departure, will be named the permanent coach for the rest of the season. This move serves as a bit of a surprising one, as mere hours after the firing, there were rumors circulated by WOJ that the Nets would hire Ime Udoka.

The Nets instead decided to hire from within and avoid the controversy that would be hiring Ime Udoka. Vaughn has been a part of the Brooklyn Nets organization since 2016. Vaughn is 2-2 as acting coach and his first game as head coach will come tonight vs the Knicks.

Although Vaughn doesn’t have the best track record as a head coach in the NBA. Acquiring a record of 58-158 during 3 seasons with Orlando. Despite this, the Nets Organization seems to believe that he is the right man for the job.

“Jacque’s basketball acumen, competitiveness and intimate knowledge of our team and organization make him the clear-cut best person to lead our group moving forward,”

This move again serves as a surprise to a lot of people as just a week ago it seemed that the Nets were 100% going to sign Ime Udoka. However, criticism from fans and analysts about the ties to Udoka led to them going a different route.

The Nets have also been dealing with the Kyrie Irving drama. And it’s possible they didn’t want to have to deal with another controversy in hiring Ime Udoka. This season hasn’t gotten off to the best start and I’m sure the Nets organization wants to put all this behind them and focus on basketball.

It’s been a disappointing season for the Nets thus far. And Vaughn has quite the job to do in terms of getting this team to the playoffs. Which is made all the more difficult when having to deal with the headcases that are Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. It’s clear though that a change was definitely needed. And Nets fans everywhere are hoping Jacque Vaughn can be the answer to their problems.
