In late August, Netflix announced the launch of a new NBA docuseries called “Starting 5,” produced by LeBron James‘ Uninterrupted studio, which featured James, Jimmy Butler, Jayson Tatum, Anthony Edwards and Domantas Sabonis.
The 10-episode series premiered on Oct. 9, releasing behind-the-scenes footage from the 2023-24 season for each player. On Tuesday, the popular streaming platform announced that it will have a second season with a new cast: Reigning NBA champion and Finals MVP Jaylen Brown, Kevin Durant, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, James Harden and Tyrese Haliburton.
Each of these five players will be followed throughout the 2024-25 season, which tipped off on Oct. 22.
Gilgeous-Alexander is an MVP candidate while Haliburton and Durant, one of the most recognizable faces in sports, are fresh off winning Gold Medal with Team USA; Brown is coming for throats after being snubbed off Team USA, hoping to lead the Boston Celtics to a second consecutive title; Harden is hoping to keep the Los Angeles Clippers afloat in the first year of the franchise playing in a brand new arena with Kawhi Leonard currently absent due to injury and Paul George in Philadelphia.
Netflix recently launched two NFL docuseries called Quarterback and Wide Receiver, so this isn’t the first sports-centered series it’s launched within the last two years. In this league, however, there’s always some sort of drama, which is an acquired taste from a public perspective. It’s a league that never sleeps.
The inaugural season of “Starting 5” received 7.2 out of 10 stars from IMDB with a small sample of reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. What are you looking forward to in Season 2?
