What will the Celtics do during the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline? Maybe the answer is right under their nose. Before the Celtics add to this roster, maybe they should take care of one of their own. Can Brad Stevens please wise up for once and give Neemias Queta a standard contract? I’m not asking for much.
Queta, 24, is currently playing on a two-way contract. It’s past time to add this dude to the actual active roster. The Portuguese product has done nothing but produce when given opportunities. In 22 games for the Celtics, Queta is averaging 4.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Not overwhelming numbers but that’s while averaging 12.2 minutes per game.
Every time the guy is on the floor he makes an impact. If you really dig deeper, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Queta has real potential. He’s shooting 60.8% from the floor while converting 75% from the free throw line. A damn respectable number for a 7-footer.
Boston is a +17.7 when Queta is on the floor. That’s a real number. On the season, Queta has a PER of 19.3. At some point, can we get the guy a standard contract? What exactly are we waiting here for?
It’s not like Queta was this unknown commodity. The Kings selected him in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft with the 39th pick. They just didn’t have any roster space and gave up on him too soon. It’s pretty obvious by now that the guy can play.
Dalano Banton, Lamar Stevens, and Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk have contracts on the active roster in Boston. How about getting rid of one to make sure Queta is actually on the team? This shouldn’t be that hard. Figure it out and get it done.
