The NCAA Wrestling Championships are right around the corner. One week from today wrestling will be kicking off in St. Louis and I am breaking down all the weights, giving a prediction, and also highlighting some other great matches we could see. The NCAA Wrestling Preview at 133 is here! Let’s dive in
Daton Fix from Oklahoma State is the number one seed, but unlike the 125-pound weight class, this bracket is wide open and any of the top 5 seeds have a legitimate title shot. The 2 seed Roman Bravo-Young from Penn State is a freak athlete and an incredible competitor. He won the Big Ten Tournament this year defeating Austin DeSanto from Iowa. Those two are on opposite sides of the bracket so I don’t anticipate them going at it again in St. Louis.
Like I said earlier, the top 5 seeds at this weight all have a legitimate shot at the title this year, but the 5 seed Micky Phillippi from Pitt might be the guy to keep an eye on. The two time ACC champion has been in big matches before, and has proven he is capable of winning all types of matches. He is going to have to beat DeSanto to have a shot at Fix in the semifinals, but whoever wins that semi will have a good chance at upsetting Fix.
The quarter-final bout between Austin DeSanto and Micky Phillippi is going to have all the attention, the winner of that will have to take on Fix, but DeSanto is one of the most polarizing wrestlers in the country. His intensity is unmatched, and often times he rubs competitors the wrong way.
I think Phillippi will beat DeSanto and face off with Fix in the semifinals. Fix will win in the semifinal and make it to the finals against Bravo-Young. This should be a great final, and I got Bravo-Young defeating Fix in a thrilling final.
TL//DR: NCAA Wrestling Championships 133 pound weight class preview. Daton Fix, Roman Bravo-Young and Austin DeSanto are all guys to keep an eye on.
