NCAA Wrestling Championship Prediction: 133 LBS

It’s that time of the year again people! MARCH MATNESS! That’s right I said MATness, not madness. The college wrestling postseason is right around the corner and it has been one hell of a season so far. I will be doing a count down the next two weeks of my picks of which wrestler is going to take the crown at each of the 10 weight classes in Minneapolis, Minnesota March 19th – March 21st. I’m so excited people you have no idea. Let’s get after it and move up from 125 LBs to 133 LBS.

Chach’s Pick: Sebastian Rivera – Northwestern JR

This is probably going to be my biggest stretch for a pick this year as Sebastian Rivera is not only up a weight class for his previous two seasons, but he is also sitting at 5th right now in the Intermat rankings. Currently, Rivera is only 9-2 on a season that many were surprised to see him wrestle at all due to the upcoming Olympic Games. Rivera recently earned his spot on the Puerto Rican World team but will still need to qualify the weight for the Olympic Games. Obviously, the Northwestern Junior is a world class wrestler and is also a 2x All-American in his first two season and holds 2 quality wins over Spencer Lee last season in the Midland and Big 10 Finals.

This year the 133 LB weight class might be the most loaded and unpredictable weight in the entire country. Between Wisconsin’s Seth Gross, Penn State’s Roman Bravo-Young, Iowa’s Austin Desanto, and Pitt’s Mickey Phillippi, Rivera will definitely have his work cut out for him. This weight could certainly go to anyone of these guys. Obviously I wanted to take my guy Austin Desanto, but after his loss to RBY and his loss to Seth Gross in their rematch I really don’t see him placing higher than 4th. If the Northwestern senior can go out there and get the job done then depending on where he is seeded in the bracket he may have the easiest path to the finals. Time will tell and with this division, every match from the quarters on could be a finals match up. I’m going with the Sea-bass from Northwestern. Chach out!
