Why Does the NBA Continue to Allow Scott Foster to Ref CP3’s Games?

No Secret that Chris Paul is Wildly Unsuccessful in Playoff Games Scott Foster Officiates

Death. Taxes. Chris Paul losing playoff games when Scott Foster officiates. It’s that simple. With Phoenix’s defeat last night, CP3’s teams are now 1-12 in the last 13 of such instances, the one win coming when he was out. It’s now gotten to a point where it would be extremely rare for this to just be some coincidence. So, it wouldn’t be out of the question for the NBA to ensure that Foster stays as far away as possible from CP3 forever, right?

Not the Ref’s Fault

I’m not saying any of this to discredit what the Bucks were able to do last night. They performed well enough for any officiating to have an effect on the outcome. However, Phoenix Head Coach Monty Williams was well within his right to question the disparity of foul calls in the game.

“I’m not going to get into publicly complaining about fouls… but we had 16 free throws tonight. One guy [on the Bucks] had 17.”

To be fair, this all was probably caused by the Suns’ willingness to absolutely hack the shit out of Giannis, but there were some missed calls that hurt them throughout the game. Again, Phoenix did not lose this game because of the difference in the number of fouls called. They lost the game because they didn’t shoot well and quite frankly didn’t want the game as much as the Bucks.

If Milwaukee lost, the series would have been over. So, it’s no surprise that they came out with much more fight than the Suns. It’s also important to note the hopelessness that Chris Paul has felt when Scott Foster has reffed him in the past.

Is it just that Paul can’t get past the fact that he knows he won’t get calls? Who knows, but still, 12 games in a row just because he’s getting screwed by Foster? I don’t think so. This whole thing has to be a mental issue for Paul, who can’t seem to get past his belief that the 27-year veteran official is out to get him.

Time to do Something About This

This whole situation has now gotten to the point where the NBA needs to step in. When you have one player so unsuccessful in games officiated by one referee, it’s time for a change. Adam Silver HAS to look into this before it happens again, or else Paul may actually try to use his position as President of the NBPA to do it himself. Hopefully, it doesn’t get to that point.
