Nationals to promote James Wood to majors

The Washington Nationals are planning to call up sensational prospect James Wood on Monday against the New York Mets, per reports. His arrival to the league is long-awaited, as the 21-year-old Maryland native was a major piece of the trade that sent All-Star Juan Soto from the Nationals to the San Diego Padres in 2022.

James Wood deserves his title as the MLB’s No. 6 prospect. The outfielder has been on a campaign of terror in the minor leagues. In 51 games for the Rochester Red Wings, Wood has slashed an astonishing .346/.458/.578, good for a 1.036 OPS. He’s smashed 10 HR, 34 RBI, and has only struck out 41 times in 225 plate appearances. Listed at 220lbs and six-foot-seven, Wood has the potential to rival the stature of sluggers like Aaron Judge.

Dave Martinez, manager of the Nationals, says he is “looking forward” to working with Wood when he arrives to the pros. Martinez believes Wood is an “outstanding kid”, and describes him as a “quality player” that the Nationals are excited to have. As good as Wood is now, the Nationals’ skipper believes this isn’t his final form.

“He’s a student on the game…He wants to learn. He wants to get better. You got to remember he’s still 21 years old. He’s still learning a lot about himself, but he’s got unbelievable talent.”

James Wood will breathe some much needed life into the Washington Nationals. Since their World Series title in 2019, the club hasn’t had a single winning season. Stars like Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and Max Scherzer have long moved on from the Washington ball club, taking their hype with them. Currently sitting at 38-42, the Nationals are right on the edge of moving their season in the right direction, and hope James Wood can be the catalyst they need.
