National Treasure: Edge of History has been canceled by Disney+
Disney’s latest venture into the world of National Treasure has come to an end as the company has announced that future seasons of the Disney+ show National Treasure: Edge of History will be canceled after only one season.
Just One of Many:
National Treasure: Edge of History is just one of several shows the streaming service has cut after but one season. Shows like The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Big Shot, The Mysterious Benedict Society, Turner and Hooch and Diary of a Future President. All were canceled after their debut season for one reason or another.
In truth, this is the fate of a lot of shows across all the streaming services and platforms. Platforms often like to throw stuff like National Treasure at the wall to see what sticks and what doesn’t. While some shows might be flops, others might have a loud but small community of fans. In both cases, these shows are still axed, however.
The Future of The Franchise:
While this cancellation may be the end for National Treasure: Edge of History, it is not the end for the franchise as a whole. With a third film having been confirmed back in 2020 and with no word of cancellation of this film, work is still continuing.
While the series’ lead actor Nick Cage hasn’t been confirmed for this film yet, writer Chris Bremner has stated that he is planning on sending the script to Cage when it’s completed, showing definite signs of life for this film and the future of the National Treasure series as a whole. We’ll just have to see where this third film goes from here.
