After what Mikko Rantanen did to the Colorado Avalanche to send them home in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, I simply can’t believe Chris MacFarland hasn’t been sent to jail already. There is no hindsight bias here. Fans have every right to be pissed and his explanation for why he traded Rantanen is as dumb as it gets. Following the Avs’ playoff loss to Dallas, you could see the disgust by Nathan MacKinnon.
“They were missing their best D and maybe their best forward. We still couldn’t beat them. I don’t know what we’re going to do.“
Spot the lie. You can’t.
Honestly… It’s almost like he watched my video, and since MacKinnon basically said everything verbatim that I did, here you go.
There are so many angles with this, but I’ll leave you with three to think about.
A: If the Avalanche couldn’t beat the Stars without Miro Heiskanen and Jason Robertson… are they ever making it out of the Central division again?
B: Not only did the Avalanche not consult MacKinnon on the Rantanen deal (link in the embed), but they also traded him prior to the cap projections being released. Sorry, but that’s as idiotic as it gets.
C: They already pushed their chips in the table, dealing their best prospect for Brock Nelson. MacKinnon is very right. I have no idea where they go from here. When Cale Makar needs a new contract, is the front office going to act this arrogant about that, too?
