Najee Harris had his 5th year option declined by the Steelers and now the 2024-25 NFL Season could be his final one with the team. With that in mind, the former Alabama product appears ‘motivated’ heading into a contract year.
Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette recently ran a column interviewing Harris’ trainer, Josh Scott. Below are some key snippets from that article.
“It’s all fueling his fire to have an even better season than last year and prove a lot of people wrong,” Scott added. “There’s a lot of people that hate on him for whatever reason, but he’s been as consistent as you can be. He’s durable. I think he’s going to continue with that. I mean, contract season, that pretty much speaks for itself.”
“One of the main things he’s done, personally, was make some big changes to his eating habits,” Scott said. “Anytime you’re looking to recomposition your body and drop body fat, that’s going to be the first place you look.”
The trainer continued: “Much more durable, much more nimble dropping that maybe eight or 10 pounds, whatever it was, of body fat but then replacing some of that with some good, lean tissue. And that’s really shown in his movement. He’s looking really, really springy; really, really light off the ground and more agile.”
It appears that Harris is taking this season seriously. He’s dropped some bad weight and is now down to 235. In reality, there are two key things that fantasy football managers need to figure out heading into the season.
A: Will Harris’ new training methods make him better than Jaylen Warren? Things weren’t trending that way for Harris last year.
B: How much will Arthur Smith help or hurt the run game in Pittsburgh? If Smith has a positive impact, maybe we’re all too low on Harris heading into the season.
Don’t forget, this exact same thing happened with Josh Jacobs. They turned his 5th year option down and he came into the following season like a wrecking ball. Maybe that will happen with Harris.
